Lilly magid, psyd

Lilly Magid, PsyD, is a licensed psychologist at BHBA and the new patient intake coordinator for children and adolescent treatment. She received her Doctorate in Clinical Psychology from the Post Campus of Long Island University. She has specialized in working with high-risk children and adolescents using Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) and she brings this expertise to BHBA, where she provides individual DBT for patients of all ages, co-leads DBT skills classes, conducts intakes, and provides parent coaching using Parent Management Training (PMT). Lilly has comprehensive DBT training as well as training in trauma-informed work, substance use, school psychology and assessment, family systems, CBT and psychodynamic approaches, which she is able to integrate and tailor to each individual client's needs. Lilly participates in BHBA's DBT-adherent weekly consultation team, takes part in in didactics and multiple weekly group supervisions, supervises psychology and social work graduate students, and organizes weekly didactics for BHBA.

Lilly honed her clinical skills by working in a variety of well placed settings within Mount Sinai St. Luke’s Hospital, Maimonides Hospital, Head Start Schools, and the Long Island University's Psychological Service Center. She has worked with patients from infancy to late adulthood and utilizes a variety of perspectives to inform her practice with children and families. At Mount Sinai, Lilly rotated through outpatient, inpatient, day treatment, and parent-infant care centers. Yet, it was her experience at the Comprehensive Adolescent Rehabilitation and Education Service (CARES), a District 79 public school for adolescents with co-occurring mental health and substance use issues, where she began to truly appreciate the effectiveness of DBT for high-risk teens. On site, she provided individual, milieu, group, and family therapy to patients who experienced severe trauma, serious mental illness, anxiety, depression, suicidality, oppositional and conduct behaviors, severe emotional dysregulation, non-conforming gender and sexual expressions, family conflict, and court and foster care involvement. Without question, she gained an in-depth understanding of the school system and the challenges that children and families face, academically, socially, and emotionally. This experience validated and fostered her passion for psychology and where it intersects with complex contemporary social justice issues.

As a clinician at BHBA, Lilly aims to dedicate her undivided attention to her clients as they collaborate towards finding a life worth living.  She believes in the resilience of the human spirit and brings warmth and compassion to each therapeutic relationship.

Prior to embarking on her career as a psychologist, Lilly worked as a first grade general education classroom teacher in Brooklyn. This experience fostered a passion for working with children and their families in a community setting, where she developed her holistic approach.
