JESSICA POWELL, MSW

Jessica Powell, MSW, received her graduate degree from New York University Silver School of Social Work, where she trained in Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT). Jessica is a psychotherapist at BHBA and an integral member of the CBT treatment team. She provides individual therapy to all ages and has a particular interest in working with adolescents and children. Jessica is passionate about evidence-based treatments and is especially excited to engage in the collaborative therapeutic process that leads to discovery, awareness and greater overall self-worth.

Jessica has extensive training working with children and adolescents, with problems in suicidal ideation, depression, and anxiety. She was trained in Trauma Focused Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (TF-CBT), during a study abroad program that provided education in child and adolescent trauma in Buenos Aires, Argentina. Previously, Jessica provided therapeutic interventions in a school-based setting, including conducting classroom observations, identifying social reinforcers, and providing consultation and support to teachers. She also conducted intake interviews, met with students on a weekly basis for treatment, and provided crisis management services. Jessica co-facilitated groups addressing issues of social skills, managing behaviors, and handling differences in culture and societal norms. As an intern, Jessica worked at an outpatient hospital-based mental health clinic where she provided therapeutic services to adolescents and young adults, including conducting intake assessments, meeting with weekly individual patients, and co-facilitating an adult mental health group.

Prior to receiving her master’s from NYU, Jessica earned her bachelor’s degree in psychology from the University of Utah. As an undergraduate, Jessica helped build and supervise a peer-to-peer suicide prevention program. Through this experience, Jessica learned best approaches to suicide prevention with youth and implementing reduction in youth suicide through education, training, and peer intervention. She also volunteered time with the National Alliance of Mental Illness (NAMI) where she provided support to homeless patients through administering food, playing games, listening, and aiding in resource locations.

In her free time, Jessica enjoys watching TV/movies, exploring new restaurants, playing with her puppy, traveling, and spending time with friends and family. She is passionate about ensuring each patient is met with kindness and compassion while providing the highest possible level of care.
